As a holistic counsellor I have been trained to use a variety of processes using sandplay, clay, watercolour, oil pastels and other means of expression. No artistic skills are needed. Creating with art materials helps you to express yourself and bring insight and healing. It helps in exploring emotions, develop self-awareness, boost self-esteem and cope with stress.
Watercolour. Working with watercolour is a gentle way to support your grief and allow emotions to come to the surface. It helps release the pain and transform what has been lost.
Clay. No words are needed when you mould and shape the clay. A power medium to work through core issues of anger, fear, grief, family of origin and self-esteem.
Oil Pastels. A quick and easy way for visual and symbolic expression.
Sand and Symbol Therapy. Sandplay gets to the heart of the matter quickly and easily. It works on a subconscious level and gets past the level of talking about the problem. It helps gain significant insights. Sandplay provides a place for expression within a safe container in which the facilitator and client walk together.
You create your sand tray, choosing your symbols and you can quickly see and solve your issues that are presented in the tray. You can observe your issue from different angles, make changes and come up with new solutions. You are the creator of the healing process, exploring feelings and emotions through playing in the sand. It is a great way to heal trauma without re-traumatising.
